Bio International – Chicago, May 3-6
Ceiba Solutions Connects New Zealand and Massachusetts with Innovative Software Solutions
Visitors to the Bio International Conference in Chicago from May 3 to May 6 made their way to and from the Massachusetts and New Zealand Pavilions, passing through Korea, to get a glimpse of the “Innovative IT Solution for Life Science,” developed by Ceiba Solutions with financial help from the New Zealand Government.
The Ceiba Life Science Dashboard is a pre-assembled group of software components and Ceiba intellectual property that help companies access documents, data and any electronic-based information for better decisions through cross-organizational communications.
Life science experts, such as Dr. Tim Bonnert, were on hand to describe how technology developed by Ceiba can help labs and R&D groups gain greater value from the “omic” data that resides across many different sytems and databases.
Also being showcased was the VaxTrak iPhone application that Ceiba Solutions developed for Novartis.
Downloaded from Apple iTunes, VaxTrak:
- Helps parents manage family immunization schedules
- Provides helpful information from the CDC
- Points to the closest clinics and pharmacies
Our staff explained to visitors how innovative IT solutions are created by our development team in New Zealand, such as the Ceiba Data Integrator, which connects various software applications and data into a single, automated business process. Ceiba then applies the innovation with life science customers in Massachusetts and around the USA.
Ceiba Solutions is a corporate member of NZBIO, as well as a member of MassBio and co-chair of its Technology Committee.
Both of these organizations take a broad, international view of their role in supporting companies in the Life Sciences.
Ceiba was given an opportunity to speak to this cross-geographic connection in the “Global Connect Town Hall” session at the Massachusetts Pavilion on Tuesday, May 4.
Ceiba CEO, Lindsay Rewcastle, joined two other chief executives of international companies to describe the experience and answer questions from the press and consultants.
During the “Global Connect Town Hall,” Mr. Rewcastle explained how he had gotten valuable advice from the Massachisetts Technology Transfer Center on the type of solution for the Life Sciences that his company was in a unique position to create. “what the industry needs is the ability to integrate all the disparate data within a life science company into a searchable asset. In their view no one was doing this, and if we could build software to achieve this we would be adding real value to both the scientific and business community.”
Ceiba then went on an R&D “mission” and came to two important conclusions. As Lindsay told his audience, ”First, what is required is “Google for a Life Science company”. No matter where the data resides – gene expressions, clinical trial data, GMP documents, e-mails it must be integrated and accessible.”
“The second conclusion was that building this software would be beyond the financial resources of Ceiba. So we approached the NZ Government for assistance and they agreed to provide investment funding for the project.”
Lindsay then said that Ceiba Solutions was announcing at Bio the release of the first version of this software.
